OPEN HOUSE & GARDEN
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 14TH &
FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 15TH
10AM - 5PM
Restoration House is a hidden gem of Rochester. The house was originally two houses with a space between them. They were joined together around 1650. Many of the original internal features were removed when the house was repossessed by the bank after Rod Hull of Emu fame, became bankrupt.
The house has been sympathetically restored and furnished with impressive period pieces and paintings. Each room has a steward who is extremely knowledgeable about the house and the items in the room.
Particularly interesting is the 'bricked-up' window and doorway in the western bedroom. The west wing of a house (the right as you face the house) that was once the eastern wing of a long-gone house that was on the site of the current Vines House.
The house is set in a beautiful garden and work is currently underway to restore the 'lost' Tudor garden.
